Travel Itinerary

Day 1

Arusha-Serengeti

This morning, your adventure begins with a pickup from your hotel in Arusha. From there, you’ll transfer to Arusha Airport for your flight to Serengeti National Park. Upon arrival at Kogetende airstrip, a friendly guide will meet you and drive you to Sayari Camp. The northern Serengeti is renowned as one of Africa's top safari destinations, and for good reason. Here, you can witness the world-famous river crossings, where massive herds of migrating wildebeest cross into Kenya between July and September before returning to Tanzania around October. The Mara River presents one of the most dangerous parts of their journey, as crocodiles and hippos lurk in the water while lions and other predators wait on land. Since the Mara River is just minutes from your camp, you’ll have the chance to see all the action right from your doorstep. Once the migrating herds move back to the southern Serengeti in December, you can enjoy a more private experience with fewer tourists and vehicles in the national park. This is a preferred time for seasoned safari-goers who appreciate having the vast plains largely to themselves. Despite the migration's absence, plenty of wildlife remains, including lions, cheetahs, elephants, and even leopards hiding in the riverine forests. Additionally, birdwatchers will delight in spotting various European migrants that arrive during this season. Overnight: Sayari Camp

Day 2-3

The Great Migration in Serengeti

On these two days, we’ll take full advantage of the cooler conditions by heading out on game drives in the early morning and late afternoon. This is when wildlife, especially predators, tends to be more active. If you have booked a private vehicle, you can customize your schedule with your guide for a more tailored experience. Each morning begins with a refreshing wake-up call, accompanied by tea or coffee delivered to your tent. After enjoying a hearty breakfast, you’ll set off for your morning game drive. If you prefer, you can even have breakfast packed as a picnic to take with you into the bush. You’ll return to camp mid-morning, giving you some time to freshen up before lunch. Following a leisurely lunch, indulge in some siesta time. You might choose to take a dip in the pool, unwind with a soothing massage, or explore our safari shop for some unique souvenirs. As the afternoon rolls in, enjoy a delightful afternoon tea before heading out for an exciting evening game drive. During this drive, you’ll have the chance to catch stunning views of the landscape as the sun sets, perhaps while enjoying a refreshing sundowner. After your adventure, you’ll return to camp in time to unwind at the bar with drinks and savor a delicious dinner under the starry sky at Sayari Camp.

Day 4

Journey to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area

This morning, you will take an early flight from Kogatende airstrip to Lake Manyara airstrip. Upon your arrival, a guide will be waiting to transfer you to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You'll reach The Highlands by Asilia, a stunning lodge perched at the edge of a forest that encircles the Olmoti Volcano. This location offers sublime, panoramic vistas, allowing you to enjoy breathtaking views of both sunrise and sunset from the camp. The famous Ngorongoro Crater lies just 40 km to the south. This remarkable caldera, the largest inactive, intact, and unflooded caldera in the world, was formed when a volcano exploded and collapsed in on itself around 2 to 3 million years ago. Today, it stands as one of Africa’s premier wildlife viewing locations, home to the Big Five and an extraordinary concentration of predators. On the northern flank of Olmoti Volcano, you may encounter buffalo, zebras, hartebeests, bushbucks, leopards, and even elephants during certain times of the year. Additionally, you might spot nocturnal animals like hyenas and porcupines. Nearby, Empakaai Crater is renowned for the thousands of flamingos that gather along the shores of its highly alkaline soda lake. Dinner and Overnight: The Highlands

Day 5

Explore the Ngorongoro Crater

Today, prepare for an incredible adventure as you explore the 300 km² Ngorongoro Crater with our experienced and knowledgeable guides. This UNESCO World Heritage Site offers one of the best wildlife viewing opportunities in Africa, allowing you to encounter a diverse range of animals in their natural habitat. We’ll pack a delicious picnic lunch for you to enjoy under the shade of a tree, making the most of your day in this stunning landscape. Our seven-seater closed vehicles are equipped with power points and fridges, ensuring that your devices stay charged and your drinks remain refreshingly cool. As you traverse the crater, keep an eye out for the Big Five—lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, and rhinos—along with an extraordinary variety of other wildlife. The scenic views and unique geological formations will enhance your experience, making this a day to remember. Overnight: The Highlands, Ngorongoro

Day 6

Empakaai Crater and Departure

This morning, you will descend into the stunning Empakaai Crater with a knowledgeable Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) ranger. Enjoy a scenic hike to the soda lake, which is famous for the vibrant pink flamingos that gather along its shores, creating a breathtaking sight. Due to its unique location, The Highlands is the only property that offers this convenient half-day excursion, allowing you to fully appreciate the beauty of this area. As you explore, take in the diverse birdlife and lush landscapes surrounding the lake. After your memorable hike, you will transfer back to Lake Manyara airstrip for your flight back to Arusha. From there, you can continue your onward travels, filled with unforgettable memories from your time in Tanzania.
