Travel Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Arusha

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, your driver will greet you and drive you to your hotel in Arusha, which takes about 90 minutes. Keep an eye out for stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru from your window during the journey. If you arrive early, you can spend the afternoon birdwatching in the garden, enjoy a coffee tasting tour at a nearby estate, visit a local market, or simply relax by the pool. After a delicious dinner at your hotel, unwind and prepare for your safari adventure the next day. Meals are available upon request. Overnight: African Tulip Hotel

Day 2-3

Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, your driver and guide will take you to Tarangire National Park, the sixth-largest national park in Tanzania, covering an impressive 2,600 square kilometers. This park is renowned for its large elephant herds and a mini-wildlife migration during the dry season, which attracts around 250,000 animals. As you explore, the vibrant wings and songs of birds accompany you. While many visitors come for the mammals, Tanzania boasts an exceptional avian population that captures the attention of even the most indifferent birdwatchers. Estimates suggest around a thousand bird species inhabit Tanzania, including 23 endemics found nowhere else. Tarangire's unique climate, alternating between hot and dry and wet and humid, along with its diverse habitats—from permanent swamps to dry savannahs—make it a prime location for birdwatching year-round. The park's checklist boasts a staggering 495 species, with its swamps home to the highest number of breeding species in any habitat globally. The best time for birding is from November to April, when migratory birds flock here, though heavy rains can complicate travel and drive many mammals out of the park. Dinner and overnight: Tarangire Ndovu Lodge

Day 4-5

Lake Manyara National Park

Over the next couple of days, immerse yourself in the avian wonders of Lake Manyara National Park. Like Tarangire, Manyara offers a fantastic introduction to Tanzania's rich birdlife, with over 400 species recorded. You can expect to spot around 100 species in just one day! The park is home to a diverse array of water-associated birds, including the striking pink-backed pelicans found near the hippo pool. When water levels are optimal, the lake also attracts thousands of flamingos, creating a breathtaking spectacle. Additionally, you'll find more than 50 species of birds-of-prey, including the majestic crowned eagle. If you visit between November and April, you’ll witness an influx of migratory birds, enhancing the park’s vibrant ecosystem. Dinner and overnight: Manyara Safari Lodge

Day 6

Departure

After a leisurely breakfast, you’ll embark on your drive back to Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward travel arrangements. As you reflect on your incredible birding safari, cherish the memories of Tanzania's stunning landscapes and vibrant wildlife. Safe travels!

Frequently Asked Questions

Let’s clarify your confusions. Here are some of the Frequently Asked Questions which most of our client asks.

Have a question in mind

Looking for more info? Send a question to the tour agent to find out more.

When and where does the tour end?

Your tour Ends in Arusha Airport. We highly recommend booking accommodation to give yourself time to ease any logistics one day before safari!

When and where does the tour start?

Day 1 of this tour is an arrival day, and it will involve a drop off from Kilimanjaro airport to your hotel in Arusha.

Do you arrange airport transfers?

We definitely have airport pick up and drop up services available for our clients who have booked our full packages tour. We are also pleased to inform you that we don’t charge for the pick up and drop off services. Actually it’s free of cost. But for this you need to provide the arrival time and date.

What about the local language? Do we need guide services everywhere?

We provide English speaking chauffeurs for individual tours. For group tours, English speaking tour escorts would accompany the groups. During sightseeing involving historically important places or monuments, we provide English speaking local guides who are well knowledged in history and culture. We could even provide guides who speak French, German and Japanese but only on advanced booking.

Is tipping included in the tour cost? If not how much should it be for the trip?

Tipping is not included in any of our packages and it is left the discretion of the travellers. Though not compulsory, tipping is expected by one and all involved in the service industry. We would recommend carrying small change in your pocket. Tips to Guides or other services rendered (Highly recommended)

What is the age travel limit for children?

We accept children of all ages to travel on safari and believe it is a wonderful experience for families to travel together. For children to make the most out of their travels, we suggest looking into one of our special family itineraries. We have car seats available for very young children. Please bear in mind, some of the accommodation have minimum age restrictions, so please inform us of the age of your child/children.

How does the weather influence a safari?

While a safari holiday can be had at any time of year, it is worth noting that seasonality will impact the type of experience you’re likely to have as well as the cost of your safari. During the dry season, the wildlife tends to congregate around the few remaining watering holes. Vegetation at this time is sparse making the animals easier to spot. The wet season is abundant both in vegetation and wildlife, as this is the birthing season – which means predators come out in force to prey on vulnerable newborns. Whichever season you choose to travel in, rest assured that the chosen camps are well equipped for the East African climate and to ensure your comfort at all times.

Can I combine my safari with a trip to Zanzibar?

Definitely - Zanzibar is a great addition to any safari itinerary or even just as an idyllic escape on its own!

When is the best time for bird watching?

Although it is good throughout the year, the best bird watching in Manyara & Tarangire is from November to April, when you can spot the migratory birds from Europe and northern Africa. This is also the time many birds can be seen in their breeding plumage.
