On arrival at Kogatende airstrip, meet your guide and game drive to Lemala Kuria Lodge, situated in the Wogakuria Hills of the Serengeti Mara area. In a beautiful setting of rolling hills and open woodland, this remote location attracts wildlife throughout the year. Not far away from the lodge is the Mara River, which is world famous for being the main wildebeest migration area between the months of July and October.
Head out for some of the Northern Serengeti’s most spectacular game viewings without the crowds in an open-topped 4x4 vehicle. An expert guide who knows these plains like the back of their hands will lead you. They will take you to some of the best spots for game viewing and game photography. Learn about African culture and discover how conservation projects have helped the area. For an additional cost, you can also explore Serengeti National Park from a unique vantage point: head out on a hot air balloon safari where you will soar amongst the birds and witness herds crossing the plains in a magical way. Then once you land, enjoy a delicious bush breakfast to end the experience.
After breakfast, transfer to the airstrip for your light aircraft flight to Lake Manyara airstrip where a guide from Lemala Ngorongoro will meet and transfer you to the camp, approximately a 2.5-hour drive with game viewing en route. Lemala Ngorongoro is intimately set in a delightful ancient acacia forest close to the rim of the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater. Dinner and overnight.
The Ngorongoro Crater was formed around 2.5 million years ago when a giant volcano exploded and collapsed on itself. Now an enclosed ecosystem and World Heritage Site, the Crater is the best place in East Africa to see the Big 5. A key advantage of staying at Lemala Ngorongoro is the quick and easy drive down on to the crater floor in the morning; Lemala guests usually have an hour’s head start over others descending via the far busier Seneto crater access road on the western rim. And of course can stay later in the afternoon before returning to camp. As Africa’s game is most active in the early morning and late afternoon this means better wildlife experiences for Lemala guests. Game drives from camp may start as early as 6.15am and guests can be down among Ngorongoro’s abundant wildlife on the floor within 10-15 minutes – crucial for photographers who demand the best light conditions. Escorted walks are also available into the forest and along the crater rim with an armed ranger and Maasai guide.
After a leisurely breakfast, transfer to Lake Manyara National Park, enjoying a game drive to Lake Manyara Tree Lodge. The following days will be spent exploring this unique park, flanked by the dramatic Rift Valley and soda lake with an incredible diversity of habitats. The nine rivers, five of which are permanent, support a variety of wildlife and birdlife and extraordinary trees including baobabs.
