Day 1

Arusha – Tarangire National Park

Distance: 139 km Non-Game Viewing Time: 2 to 3 hours After breakfast at your lodge in Arusha, depart for Tarangire National Park. The drive takes you through the beautiful Maasai steppe, passing various villages along the way. Tarangire, one of the best national parks in Northern Tanzania, is situated along the Tarangire River and features low-lying hills that are part of the Great Rift Valley. The park is primarily covered in acacia woodlands and is dotted with impressive African baobab trees, alongside a swamp area in the south. The Tarangire River and surrounding swamps attract a large number of wildlife, as they are the only permanent water sources in the park. Tarangire is especially famous for its substantial elephant population, which is unparalleled in Africa. During your game drive, you can expect to see giraffes, buffalo, zebras, impalas, wildebeests, warthogs, baboons, and numerous monkeys. Rare species such as the Greater Kudu, Fringed-Eared Oryx, and Ash Stalling may also make an appearance. Additionally, predators like lions, leopards, hyenas, jackals, and cheetahs, along with various vultures and other birds of prey, inhabit the park. Birdwatchers will delight in the fact that over 400 bird species have been recorded here, including many migratory species. In the late afternoon, enjoy a sunset drive as you head to Marera Valley Lodge for dinner and an overnight stay. Be sure to stop at the Lake Manyara viewpoint for stunning pictures of the lake and its lush forest, framed by the Great East African Rift Valley. Day 2

Tarangire – Ngorongoro Crater

Distance: 50 km Non-Game Viewing Time: 1 hour After breakfast, drive up to the Ngorongoro Highlands. Stop briefly for registration at the gate before heading to the Crater viewpoint. Here, you can take in breathtaking views of the crater floor from above and capture some stunning photos. Then, descend the 600-meter-high walls into the crater for a full day of game driving. Ngorongoro Crater is often called the "Eden of Africa" due to its stunning scenery and abundant wildlife. This natural wildlife sanctuary is home to a variety of large mammals and plains animals. You’ll enjoy a packed lunch on the crater floor as you watch herds of wildebeest, eland, zebras, hippos, African elephants, gazelles, and even the rare black rhino in their natural habitat. One of the main attractions of this vast caldera is its dense population of predators, including lions, hyenas, cheetahs, jackals, and the elusive leopard, which requires a keen eye to spot. All these animals are confined within the towering volcanic walls, allowing for close-range viewing. During your exploration, you will visit Lake Magadi, a large shallow alkaline lake in the southwestern corner of the crater. Here, you can often see large flocks of flamingos, various aquatic birds, and hippos. In the late afternoon, drive back to Manyara Safari Lodge for dinner and overnight accommodations.
