Our 4 Days Tanzania Highlight Safari provides an exhilarating adventure tailored for wildlife enthusiasts seeking incredible experiences within a limited timeframe. You will spend three nights exploring the remarkable Mikumi National Park and the breathtaking Udzungwa Mountains National Park.
First, Mikumi, often referred to as the “little Serengeti,” is rich in wildlife, presenting fantastic game-viewing opportunities. Here, you can spot four of the Big Five, including lions, leopards, elephants, and buffaloes, while only the elusive rhino is missing from this diverse ecosystem. Additionally, the park is home to large herds of elephants, zebras, wildebeests, and hyenas. Remarkably, you’ll have a greater chance of spotting tree-climbing lions in Mikumi than in Lake Manyara National Park, which is famous for its unique lion behavior!
On the other hand, the Udzungwa Mountains National Park boasts remarkable biodiversity, being part of the Eastern Arc Mountains. This area is known for its endemic species, including the Iringa red colobus and the Udzungwa Forest Partridge, making it a significant biodiversity hotspot. Furthermore, its stunning landscapes, featuring rolling hills, valleys, and breathtaking waterfalls, create a paradise for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.
Moreover, your journey begins at DAR Airport, where you will meet your guide and transfer to your hotel in Dar Es Salaam for a comprehensive briefing before your safari. This exciting adventure is suitable for everyone and available year-round.

Early in the morning, you will be picked up from Dar- es-salaam and transfer to Mikumi National Park, with a brief stopover on the way for lunch and arriving in time for an afternoon game drive in the park in search for wildlife such as buffaloes, giraffes, lions etc. Mikumi is blessed with high numbers of game and often referred as little Serengeti. End your safari at Vuma Hills Tented Camp for dinner and overnight stay. Overnight: Vuma Hills Tented Camp
After a leisurely breakfast, head to the park for the entire day of game viewing, The Mikumi flood plain is one of the park's most significant features bordering the mountain ranges. Be on the lookout for the wildebeests, elephants, giraffes, lions, buffaloes and many more. Dinner and overnight back at the camp. Overnight: Vuma Hills Tented Camp
Wake up to a hot breakfast and head off to explore the park's vegetation that includes swamps, forests/woodland, savanna, Mkata Chamgore . Apart the bird species, you will also be able to encounter monitor lizards and pythons around the pool. Head to back to camp for lunch and relaxation. Later, check out and transfer to Udzungwa Mountains National Park which is about an hour's journey from Mikumi. Arrive at Udzungwa Forest Tented Camp for dinner and overnight.
After your morning breakfast, you will take a hike through Udzungwa Mountains. The most popular trail in Udzungwa is Sanje Waterfall. This 180m waterfall is very impressive, surrounded by rainforest with excellent views over the Kilombero floodplain. At the top, you can swim in the refreshing plunge pool of the top waterfall (around 40m high) surrounded by thick rainforest. Optionally, you can take a 20min detour from the path, either on the way up, or on the way down the path from the Old Sanje Hotel, to the bottom of the large waterfall for fantastic views looking up, and more swimming/jumping/diving in the pool (a bit warmer). Sanje can be walked at any time of day, but it is best done in the morning with the sun on the waterfalls, as it is very hot at midday. At the right time of year, the sides of the gorge are covered in fireball lilies. It is common to see both types of Colobus on this trail. Many people walk up and down on the Old Sanje Hotel trail, but there is an alternative route up or down starting at the ranger post to the south. This route is slightly longer and is less used, so provides better chances of seeing undisturbed monkeys, and of course a circular walk. Later head back to your lodge to freshen up before your transfer back to Dar es Salaam for onward travel arrangements.
