Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, your driver will greet you and drive you to your hotel in Arusha, which takes about 90 minutes. Keep an eye out for stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru from your window during the journey. If you arrive early, you can spend the afternoon birdwatching in the garden, enjoy a coffee tasting tour at a nearby estate, visit a local market, or simply relax by the pool. Over the next couple of days, immerse yourself in the avian wonders of Lake Manyara National Park. Like Tarangire, Manyara offers a fantastic introduction to Tanzania's rich birdlife, with over 400 species recorded. You can expect to spot around 100 species in just one day! The park is home to a diverse array of water-associated birds, including the striking pink-backed pelicans found near the hippo pool. When water levels are optimal, the lake also attracts thousands of flamingos, creating a breathtaking spectacle. Additionally, you'll find more than 50 species of birds-of-prey, including the majestic crowned eagle.
