Day 1

Fly to Nyerere National Park

This morning, you will be picked up from your hotel in Dar es Salaam and transferred to the domestic terminal for your flight to Nyerere National Park. Upon arrival at Mtemere airstrip, you’ll be warmly greeted by your guide and embark on a game drive to Rufiji River Camp.

Rufiji River Camp

Nestled on a stunning promontory along the riverbank, Rufiji River Camp was redesigned in 2009 to enhance its natural beauty. Constructed by local craftsmen, the camp features traditional Makuti palm roofs, Selous-sourced paving stones, and locally sourced hardwoods, offering a blend of comfort and authenticity. While at the camp, you can take a refreshing dip in the shaded swimming pool, providing the perfect respite between your safari activities. Exploring Nyerere National Park

The following days will be filled with adventure as you explore Nyerere National Park (Selous) while staying at Rufiji River Camp. This stunning location offers a variety of exciting activities, including thrilling game drives, serene boat cruises, and guided nature walks.

Game Drives: Experience the thrill of spotting wildlife in their natural habitat as you embark on morning and evening game drives. Keep an eye out for elephants, lions, and a diverse array of bird species. Boat Cruises: Glide along the Rufiji River on a scenic boat cruise, where you can enjoy breathtaking views and observe wildlife from a unique perspective. This is an excellent opportunity to see hippos, crocodiles, and various bird species up close. Journey to Ruaha National Park

After breakfast, you'll transfer to the airstrip for your flight to Ruaha National Park. Upon arrival at Msembe airstrip, you will be warmly greeted by your guide and transferred to the charming Ruaha River Lodge.

Ruaha River Lodge

Nestled along the riverbank, Ruaha River Lodge features 24 beautifully designed stone chalets, each offering stunning views from a spacious front veranda. The large interiors provide a comfortable sitting area, writing desk, and the option of twin or double beds for a restful night’s sleep. At the rear of each chalet, you’ll find a luxurious bathroom adorned with locally sourced timber, complete with a shower and double basins, providing a touch of elegance and comfort. Exploring Ruaha National Park

Spend today immersed in the stunning landscapes of Ruaha National Park, with views right on the banks of the Ruaha River. You'll embark on exhilarating game drives that take you deeper into the park, where diverse wildlife awaits.

Wildlife Highlights

Ruaha National Park is renowned for its rich biodiversity. Keep an eye out for both Greater and Lesser Kudu, as well as striped and spotted hyenas, Roan, and Sable antelope. The lion population here has become so impressive that they’ve gained recognition for their unique hunting techniques, including targeting giraffes, which is not typical behavior. The park’s rugged rocky outcrops provide a habitat for a healthy population of leopards. Additionally, you may be fortunate enough to spot rare species such as African wild dogs, cheetahs, jackals, bat-eared foxes, and even genet and civet. You’ll also encounter numerous elephant herds roaming close to the lodge and throughout the park, providing memorable sightings that highlight the region's wildlife richness. When and where does the tour end?

Your tour Ends in Dar Es Salaam city or DAR Airport. We highly recommend booking accommodation to give yourself time to ease any logistics one day before safari!

When and where does the tour start?

Day 1 of this tour is an arrival day, and it will involve a pick up from your hotel in Dar es Salaam for flight to Nyerere National Park for an exciting game drive.

Do you arrange airport transfers?

We definitely have airport pick up and drop up services available for our clients who have booked our full packages tour. We are also pleased to inform you that we don’t charge for the pick up and drop off services. Actually it’s free of cost. But for this you need to provide the arrival time and date.

What about the local language? Do we need guide services everywhere?

We provide English speaking chauffeurs for individual tours. For group tours, English speaking tour escorts would accompany the groups. During sightseeing involving historically important places or monuments, we provide English speaking local guides who are well knowledged in history and culture. We could even provide guides who speak French, German and Japanese but only on advanced booking.

Is tipping included in the tour cost? If not how much should it be for the trip?

Tipping is not included in any of our packages and it is left the discretion of the travellers. Though not compulsory, tipping is expected by one and all involved in the service industry. We would recommend carrying small change in your pocket. Tips to Guides or other services rendered (Highly recommended)

What is the age travel limit for children?

We accept children of all ages to travel on safari and believe it is a wonderful experience for families to travel together. For children to make the most out of their travels, we suggest looking into one of our special family itineraries. We have car seats available for very young children. Please bear in mind, some of the accommodation have minimum age restrictions, so please inform us of the age of your child/children.

When is the best time to travel for this tour?

This tour is great for any time of year, however the best time for game viewing in the parks is during the dry season from June to February when wildlife converges on the dwindling water reserves notably the river, lakes and waterholes.
