On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will board a light aircraft and be flown to the Manyara Strip, where you will be met and driven for approximately three hours towards the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater. You will stop along the way to take in the views, enjoy a packed lunch, and then head to the Highlands for your next two nights. The Highlands is exceptional safari luxury featuring en suite tents which have floor-to-ceiling windows intended to harmoniously blend the indoors with the outdoors of this African wilderness. The next day of your 9-day Tanzania itinerary includes a morning game drive in the Crater which offers a classic Big 5 safari experience in this unique setting - an ancient volcano caldera. In the late afternoon you will be taken to a nearby Maasai village, where you can learn more about this wonderful culture and take part in their afternoon activities, which often includes rounding up cattle to be taking into the boma for the evening.
After breakfast, you will be transferred back to the Manyara Airstrip, where you will catch your next charter flight to the famed Serengeti, a sky safari for about forty-five minutes. You will then be transferred to your next accommodation, Sayari Camp. This camp is at the heart of one of the greatest natural spectacles on earth, the Great Migration. The camp is pitched twice a year, spending a few months in the northern section of the Serengeti and other months in the southern section, moving as the herds would. The safari tents feature bucket showers and flush toilets and connects you to the raw wilderness of your surroundings, a true African escape. The next few days will be an exploration, in search of what is undoubtedly some of the best game viewing in all of Africa. Beautiful grasslands, endless savannahs, riverine forests and woodlands are home to iconic wildlife including leopard, lion and cheetah - the sought-after big cats. Your evenings will be spent at camp, enjoying dinner, and retelling the day's adventures the African way, alongside a roaring fire.
You will have one more opportunity for an early morning game drive in the magic of the Serengeti before you fly out to Rubondo Island Camp on Lake Victoria in the mid-afternoon. Rubondo Island Camp is the only camp on the island, and it overlooks the lake, surrounded by tropical forests. It's an untouched haven where hippos and crocodiles sunbath, and chimpanzees and monkeys populate the lush forest canopy. One of your mornings will be spent setting out with a guide, a researcher, and a ranger to search for chimpanzees and be a part of the Rubondo habituation programme, a once-in-a-lifetime experience to be some of the first travellers to meet the islands chimps. The island offers a host of activities that include guided nature walks, safari-style game drives and floating serenely on calm waters in a traditional dhow. Leisure hours are spent in utter relaxation, reclining poolside, or retreating to your private veranda with a chilled bottle of wine being serenaded by the sounds of the forest.
